How to Join Indian Navy as an Officer!

There are many ways and steps which are required to join the Indian Navy. The selection of any candidate in the Indian Navy as an officer could be done through the following 5 ways:

  •  The 10+2 ENTRIES:

NDA EXAMINATIONS: 

NDA stands for the National Defence Academy. The NDA is a TRI-SERVICE institute that serves three categories of forces which include the Indian Military, the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force. The candidates can apply for either of the three forces of the Indian Armed Forces.

  • NDA examination is conducted twice a year. The UPSC (UNION PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION) conducts it. Thus, it is also called the UPSC Entry.
  • Only science stream students can apply through NDA examination.
  • The candidate applying should have age between 16.5 – 19.5 years.
  •  The candidate’s educational qualification should have Physics, Chemistry, and Maths as main subjects in 10+2.
  • The notification regarding the exam is prompted twice a year that is in December- January and June- July.
  • Only unmarried male candidates can apply.
  • The candidate can apply through the official website of UPSC.

B. TECH ENTRY: 

It is a direct entry. The students doing their Bachelor’s in Technology are eligible to apply.

  • Only technical students can apply.
  • The candidate applying should have age between 17 – 19.5 years.
  • The candidate’s educational qualification should include aggregate 70% or more in Physics, Chemistry and Maths and also a minimum of 50% in English in their 10th or 12th.
  •  Only science stream students who appeared for JEE Mains examination are eligible to apply since the selection of the candidates is done on the basis of JEE Mains merit or All India Rank through JEE Mains.
  • The notification regarding the exam is prompted twice a year that is in December and June.
  •  Only unmarried male candidates can apply.

  • The GRADUATION ENTRIES

CDS EXAMINATIONS: 

CDS stands for the Combined Defence Services. The CDS is similar to NDA and it also offers TRI-SERVICE institute that serves three categories of forces which includes the Indian Military, the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force. The candidates can apply for either of the three forces of the Indian Armed Forces.

  • CDS examination is conducted twice a year. The UPSC (UNION PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION) conducts it. Thus, it is also called the UPSC Entry.
  • Only science stream students can apply through NDA examination as it is for engineering students.
  • The candidate applying should have age between 19 – 24 years.
  • The candidate’s educational qualification requirement includes final year engineering students and graduates.
  • The notification regarding the exam is prompted twice a year that is in June- July and November.
  •  Only unmarried male candidates can apply.
  • The candidate can apply through the official website of UPSC: UPSC.GOV.IN

UES Entry: 

UES stands for the University Entry Scheme. The UES is a Direct Entry.

  •  The candidate applying should have age between 18 – 24 years.
  •  Only pre-final year students of engineering can apply. i.e., students of 7th semester.
  • Minimum 60% aggregate are required up till 6th semester.
  • The notification regarding the exam is prompted twice a year that is in December- January and June- July.
  •  As it is a direct entry, selection of the candidates is done on the basis of campus interview.

 NCC SPECIAL ENTRY: 

NCC stands for the National Cadet Corps.

  •  Only NCC’s NAVAL WING cadets can apply.
  • The candidate applying should have age between 19 – 25 years.
  • The candidate’s educational qualification must include a minimum of 50% of marks with graduation. Along with that, 2 year of service experience in the NCC Senior Division is also required. With that said, the candidate must have a minimum B grade C- certificate of NCC.
  • The selection of candidates is done through SSB interview.
  •  Only unmarried male candidates can apply.
