The women are selected on the basis of SSC (Short Service Commission) in the Indian Air Force, which clearly states that the female candidate can serve only for 10-14 years duration and after that, they have to take retirement.

There are mainly three entries for women through which they can apply for the Indian Air Force as an Officer. They are:

  1. AFCAT Entry
  2. FTS Entry
  3. NCC Entry

  1. The AFCAT ENTRY: The AFCAT stands for Air Force Common Admission Test.
  • This exam is conducted twice a year by the Indian Air Force.
  •  Notification regarding the exam is prompted twice a year in June and December.
  • The Indian Air Force has two branches: The flying branch and the ground duty branch. The ground duty branch has two sub-categories: The technical branch and the non-technical branch.
  • Female aspirants can apply for both the branches only through AFCAT.
  • The flying branch category:
  1. The age limit for the candidate to apply through this entry is 20-24 years.
  2. The age limit for the candidate who has a commercial pilot license issued by DGCA is till 26 years of age.
  3. The candidate should have Maths and Physics in their 10+2 and graduation is compulsory.
  4. The minimum height of the candidate should be 162.5 centimeters.
  • The ground duty branch:
  1. The age limit for the candidate to apply through this entry is 20-26 years.
  2. In the technical branch, the candidate should have Maths and Physics in their 10+2 and a minimum of 60% in Engineering degree(in any stream) is mandatory.
  3. In the non-technical branch, there are 4 more categories: administration, logistics, accounts, and education. The candidate should have a min. 60% in any degree course for administration and logistics entry. For accounts, min. 60% is required for a B.Com. degree. For the education category, only postgraduate(MBA, MCA, MA, MSc PGs.) candidates with a minimum of 60% can apply.
  • The candidates of final year graduation and graduated candidates can apply through AFCAT.
  • Male and Female both the candidates are eligible to apply.
  • Only unmarried female candidates can apply.
  • The candidates can apply for the exam through the official website of the Indian Air Force.

  1. The FTS Entry: The FTS stands for Fast Track Selection entry. The candidates who apply through this category are selected in the meteorology branch. The meteorology branch’s main role is the weather analysis, which helps the aircraft to take-off according to the suitable atmosphere.
  • Notification regarding the exam is prompted based on the vacancies.
  • The age limit for the female candidates to apply through this entry is 20 to 26 years.
  • Only those candidates are eligible to apply for this category, who have a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in the post-graduation in any science stream. The candidates should have Maths and Physics in their graduation with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks.
  • Only unmarried female candidates can apply.
  1. The NCC Entry: The NCC special entry is an entry where only the NCC cadets can apply. It is a direct entry. There is no written exam. Shortlisted candidates have to face the SSB interview.
  •  The female candidates who are applying through this category can only apply for the flying branch of the Indian Air Force. 
  • The age limit for the female candidates to apply through this entry is 20 to 24 years.
  • The candidate should have a min. 60% in Maths and Physics in their 10+2 and graduation is compulsory with a minimum of 60%.
  • Only those candidates can apply, who have NCC Air Wing ’C’ certificate issued on or after 6th August 2015.
  • Only unmarried female candidates can apply.
  • The aspirants can apply directly from the official website.
